For some people, figuring out their purpose in life comes quite naturally; for others, not so much. Unfortunately, I’ve always fallen in the latter of those two categories.
Nonetheless, Perspectives makes the point that we all have a purpose and that the secret to a life of significance is to devote yourself to one that’s larger than yourself.
As Christians, we all the share the same purpose: to be a blessing to those around us and thus fulfill our duty as beneficiaries of the Abrahamic Covenant.
To that end, here are a few of the phrases that really stood out to me from reading this lesson:
“Election is not a synonym for elitism.” — The Revd John Stott
“Blessing is the way God enables His creation to be fertile and fruitful, to grow and to flourish. It is in the most comprehensive sense, God’s purpose for His creation.” — Richard Bauckham
“The degree of the church’s commitment to world evangelization is commensurate with the degree of its conviction about the authority of the Bible. Whenever Christians lose their confidence in the Bible, they also lose their zeal for evangelism. Conversely, whenever they are convinced about the Bible then they are determined about evangelism.” — Stott
Being a blessing does not come naturally to most people, but that’s no excuse. Rather than sitting idly by, we must make ourselves available and take action where we see the need.
